What's the big deal?

well in short obama and Hilary Clinton are voting for a anti small arms treaty making it very hard to own anything other than a hunting rifle in short. I understand some do not like firearms but I believe it is my right according to my constitution for it to be my choice as long as I follow the legal guidelines as to own it legally. I'm a gun owner and I own it legally going to get my carry permit and I use gun safety in my home. I think it is a horrible law to even think about passing. If this passes it will be globally and the only one's with guns will be the same damn criminals that have them now. They have enough issues enforcing the laws now against the illegal gun owners.... So lets take guns from the legal bastards so it's only the criminals with them.

College student shoots home invader, saves 10 lives


Yet another reason to keep a gun in the house . . .

Several months ago, in the notoriously dangerous neighborhood of College Park in Atlanta, Georgia, two armed criminals broke into a house party of students.

After confiscating the group's valuables, the invaders split the men and women up into different rooms.

Witnesses say the perpetrators then counted their rounds and discussed if they had "enough" ammunition.

The students believe the gunmen were going to rape and murder the entire group of students, who were celebrating a birthday at the end of the semester.

However, one male student, whose identity is being protected by police and local media, retrieved a handgun from his backpack and fired at the thug who was detaining the men.

(That is: One smart student had prepared for a night in College Park, Atlanta.)

The criminal fled the apartment under the threat of injury and never returned.

The student, continuing on into the girls' room, found the other thug, 23-year-old Calvin Lavant, preparing to rape his first victim.

The student exchanged gunfire with Lavant, lethally wounding him in the process. Lavant fled through a window and died in front of his apartment, only one building away.

One of the female students was injured during the exchange, but doctors expect a full and complete recovery.

So what's the point

A student saved the girls from rape, and saved the whole group of 10 people (including himself) from murder . . . and he did it with a handgun.

This is a perfect example of how ludicrous "big city gun laws" are. What if this had happened in New York, Chicago, or any of the other big cities that criminalize their citizens' self defense?

Yes, we would be reading an entirely different story -- one so horrendous that we would shudder at the very words.

Either this whole group of friends would have been raped and murdered by these two sorry excuses for human beings . . . or the hero of this story would be facing prison time for firearm possession and murder.

Thankfully, however, Atlanta hasn't outlawed self-defense yet. And since someone had a gun and was willing to use it, innocent life was preserved.

Congratulations to the unnamed hero of this story. You saved your friends' lives.

This is just my opinion. I'm not against other people owning firearms, but I do wonder why people need to own 9mm Barretta's? Or .44 Magnum....Or Semi-Automatic weapons....etc...etc... I just don't see a logical reason for it.

Now if you want to own a gun, I don't see a problem with it. The problem I see is, that the more guns that are available to the public. The more will be available to the criminals. If they were to remove handguns, semi-auto rifles, automatic weapons....it would be easier to control.

Gun stores get robbed. Guns get stolen.

I live in Canada, and the same problem exists here. This is my thought on the matter.

At least in the Tennessee and Florida not many gun stores get robbed saying this after just doing some news research. Most illegal gun purchase's are made on the black market, with that being said. Owning a 9mm, a .44 magnum or handgun of any size or caliber most of our crime falls in home invasion and robberies due to our rural communities. Our local Sheriff's office has a average of a 20 min response time to these type crimes as they wait on a back up unit. So if we had a said home invasion if I could manage to get to a phone to make this 911 call now we have a average of 20 minutes to fight off said attacker or average of 2 attackers which on average are all ways armed. So If they pass this law I guess I will then be a criminal cause I just can't see being unarmed and only the criminals having the firearms. I think rather than being a candy ass government we should have stricter courts that will quit releasing the rapist, drug dealers, and such keep them locked up or send them overseas to fight our wars if they want freedom make them earn it. I can almost understand making laws restricting the sales of AR-14's and such assault rifles.

Florida state law on handgun ownership requires a strict federal background check and a 3 day hold on any handgun or assault rifle, now as far as a bolt action rifle or a shotgun no hold just the background check. Tennessee state law there is no hold just the strict federal background check. Now as far as laws for the places that sell them they don't have to lock up the weapons in a safe but a security system MUST be in place that places a call to law enforcement upon activation. All ammunition must be locked up at the end of business day in a fire proof safe with duel locking devices. So if you managed to break into a gun store and most are pretty heavily fortified for most common criminals to get the gun wouldn't be hard but then to get the clip or ammo would be near impossible before law enforcement would arrive.

The UN Treaty has been around in some form or another since 2003, and the US pledge of support happened almost six months ago. But it has absolutely nothing to do with your ability to lawfully own a gun, and it has everything to do with stemming the flow of illegal trafficking of said firearms. You can even look it up on Wikipedia. The whole point of the treaty is to enact legislation that prevents small arms from being a black market items to the degree that they are. It has nothing to do with gun ownership in any of the countries. In short, this is the firearm equivalent of trying to halt conflict/blood diamond sales.

If it were about the illegal trafficking of children across national borders, would you be scared that your kid would be confiscated by the government because you're an unfit and unlicensed parent?

I never once purchased my gun with the intent to kill anyone, but I do undersand what your saying. A 9mm will plug someone full of 13 rounds and go all the way through to kill whatever is 2 rooms down from, muzzle velocity is much to fast. Its the same idea as, do hunters really need armor piercing bullets? when the last time bambi was packing a vest??? In kansas you can legally own silencers for your guns.... why? I dont know but they cant teach evolution in the schools either in this half ass backwards state.

Unfit parents wow that could be a whole different thread also in the fu** you thread. There is many problems there, but after talking with a few of the people running for congress and I'm a proud member of NAGR and NRA they are trying to strip rights from legal gun owners as well Zol with this treaty supported by the US it will help the anti-gun supporters on there goals. NRA and NAGR would not be spending 100's of thousands in attorney's and advertising if this was just a black market this is a complete and different treaty directed towards small arms and semi auto weapons.

Why I own several firearms: To be ready for anything:

Home invasion.
Robbery.
An invasion of another military.
and of course.... zombie apocalypse.

In all serious I DO want to be able to protect myself if in the future we are for some reason invaded. Not to mention I just thoroughly enjoy target shooting. It is my right to own anything from my assault rifle to my little pocket pistol.

As others have said, criminals do not get their weapons legally. Sure SOME are stolen from people who have purchased them, but those people for the most part do not have them properly stored. I love my firearms and no one is taking them from me unless they have a legit reason such as I become insane or am a criminal.

They will get them from our cold dead hands but I'm with you on the zombie apocalypse I feel it's coming we better be ready..... I seen a woman down the road with hair rollers and a night gown it wasn't normal I almost capped her but figured I should wait and see if she attacked.
